Kabul (Kavian Press) – Afghan government negotiators will fly tomorrow to Doha as Afghan government has resumed releasing Taliban prisoners, according to the Afghan president spokesman Siddiq Siddique.
On his twitter account Siddique announced that the Afghan government has released a number of Taliban prisoners yesterday and the process to release the remaining prisoners are ongoing.
“The prisoner release is a mutual agreement between the Taliban and the Afghan government and the government is in full control of the process and it’s evaluating every step in the process.” He further tweeted.
Local officials in Kandahar have confirmed the release of the new prisoners and said eight Taliban prisoners were released yesterday and in exchange the Taliban has released four Afghan commandos
Fraidoon Khawzoon the spokesman for Abdullah Abdullah who is the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) has told reporters, “all obstacles have been removed and tomorrow the team is leaving for Doha”
There was no immediate meeting date available but both sides have expressed their willingness to start the delayed negotiations.
