Kabul (Kavian Press)- At least 20 people were killed and more than 30 others were wounded when gunmen attacked Kabul University in Afghanistan’s capital. The attack was started by one man exploding himself at the entrance gate and the other two entering the classrooms and shooting students. The attack ended after hours of fighting with security forces.
“Three attackers were involved. One of them blew up his explosives at the beginning; two were brought down by the security forces.” Interior Ministry spokesperson Tariq Arian said.
“At the time of the attack, there were more than 8,000 students present in campus.” He further added.
Most of the victims are students and ministry of higher eductation employees present in the building for a book fair ceremony.
Iran’s semi-official ISNA news agency reported on Sunday that Iranian Ambassador Bahador Aminian and cultural attache Mojtaba Noroozi were scheduled to inaugurate the fair, which was to host some 40 Iranian publishers.
Taliban has denied involvement in the attack but the Afghan vice president Amrullah Saleh blamed the Taliban for the attack.
Two weeks ago in another suicide bombing attack at the educational center in West of Kabul at least 24 students were killed and more than 40 others were wounded. No one claimed responsibility for that attack either.
