Washington ( Kavian Press) – Facebook removed President Trump posts on Tuesday, claiming Covid-19 is like flu while Twitter hid the initial post and disabled retweet issuing warning that the post, “spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19”
At the time Facebook took the post down, it was shared about 26,000 times and the company’s spokesman told Reuters News, “We remove incorrect information about the severity of COVID-19,”
Covid-19 has killed more than 210,000 Americans since the first case of coronvirus recorded in the country as early as February of this year. Seasonal flu during the year 2019-2020 is associated with almost 22,000 deaths in the U.S according to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates.
Before leaving the Walter Reed military hospital on Monday where Trump was treated for coronavirus infection for three nights, he told American public “to get out there” and not fear COVID-19.
The first time Facebook removed Trump’s post was in August where the president falsely claimed that children were “almost immune” to COVID-19.
In response to Facebook and Twitters’ actions, Trump via a tweet called for the repeal of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects online platforms from legal action that could result from third-party content.
