Afghan government announced on Sunday to release the final 400 Taliban prisoners, paving the way for the Taliban join the intra-Afghan peace talks.
The decision came after the country’s grand assembly, or Loya Jirga, approved the release, one of the main precondition set by the Taliban to start the peace talk with the Afghani government.
“In order to remove an obstacle, allow the start of the peace process and an end of bloodshed, the Loya Jirga approves the release of 400 Taliban,” the assembly said in a resolution.
After the approval from the Jirga, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani announced he will sing the release orders of the 400 prisoners.
Last week Afghan President announced that the faith of the remaining 400 Taliban prisoners will be decided by the representatives of the Afghan people and the politicians through the grand assembly.
Afghan government has so far released 4600 of the 5000Taliban prisoners a precondition set by the Taliban in the peace deal they signed with United State earlier this year.
Among the 400 remaining prisoners are the Taliban members accused of planning and carrying out major attacks against Afghan civilian, military forces and foreigners. According to Afghan officials the 400 prisoners also includes members of the Haqqani networks which has strong ties to Al-Qaida and the Taliban.
