Washington (Kavian Press)- Nearly after former vice president won the November 03 election, China one of the last major countries has congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden and his running make Kamala Harris.
“We respect the choice of the American people. We extend congratulations to Mr Biden and Ms Harris,” China’s foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a daily news briefing.
Trump has yet to concede and his refusal to accept defeat has put Beijing in an awkward position.
“We understand the results of the US election will be determined according to US laws and procedures,” The spokesman further added.
With more than 5 million popular votes, Biden became the nominee with the highest number of votes in the last 128 years of US history. Late Thursday he added Arizona a typically Republican states to the list of states he was able to flip this election and cemented his lead and his victory over Trump.
Since Nov 03 Trump has repeatedly claimed election fraud without providing any evidence and has filed numerous lawsuits against many states.
US election officials said there is no evidence of broad election fraud in the November 3 election.
Shortly after Biden’s win many allies offered congratulations, while except for leaders of China, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
Back in 2016, Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Trump on November 9, a day after the election.
Soon after Trump moved to the White House US-China relation started deteriorating over disputes ranging from technology and trade to Hong Kong and the coronavirus, with the relation right now standing at its worst in decades. Both countries have bombarded each other with tariffs and Donald Trump has imposed sanctions against China’s tech industries and military.
