Washington (Kavian Press) – At least 16 people have been killed as a result of heavy rains causing flood and the house collapse in Hyderabad India, according to government officials and reports.
According to Indian Media 18 people have died since Monday and daily life has been thrown out of gear across parts of Hyderabad as roads are flooded and vehicles washed away in several neighborhoods.
Heavy rains and thunderstorms are expected in the region through Thursday. Authorities in Hyderabad declared emergency holiday on Wednesday and Thursday and asked residents to stay indoors.
According to the Times of India newspaper quoting the Indian Meteorological Department officials, Hyderabad received 25cm (10 inches) of rain in the past 24 hours, the highest in over 20 years.
The rains have damaged rice paddies and other crops such as corn, cotton, and pulses, traders said, but the officials said it was too early to assess the full extent of crop losses.
