Washington (Kavian Press) – Two women charged with assault and racist slurs on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing two other women wearing Islamic headscarves near the Eiffel Tower in Paris and trying to rip off their veils.
The accused women were drunk when they met a group of Muslim women and children in park near Eiffel Tower. The argument started over the aggressive dog of the one of the two women and from there one of the two women pulled a knife and stabbed two of the Muslim women, aged 19 and 40.
The 40-year-old woman sustained six stab wounds and is being treated in hospital for injuries to the lung. The younger victim was stabbed three times and was also treated in hospital but has since been discharged.
The attackers are with assault aggravated by the use of a weapon, drunkenness, racial insults and the fact that they acted together. The main attacker is in custody but the second woman was freed on bail
The victims’ lawyer Arie Alimi has called for the women to face stiffer charges, accusing them of attempted murder linked to the victims’ race or religion.
The incident caused huge public outcry on social media, with some people accusing the French media of remaining silent about an attack they saw as clearly anti-Muslim.
The incident is the latest racial tensions following the killing last week of a French teacher who had shown his students the caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed.
